President’s Message

Dear friends,

Dr. Haniza YonIt is my pleasure to welcome you to the Malaysian Psychometrics Association (MPA) website.

Founded by the Psychometrics Cluster, MIMOS Berhad, the MPA was registered in June 2011 with the aim of promoting psychometrics and raising awareness of testing standards in Malaysia. Measurement is ubiquitous in Malaysian education and industry. Nevertheless, psychometrics, the study and application of measurement theories and techniques, is still too often perceived as an obscure academic field rather than a practical discipline that today plays a major role in our society. Testing is used from the early levels of the education system to the end of university, and in recruitment and promotion decisions in the workplace.

One important goal of the MPA is to improve public understanding of measurement and psychometrics. However, the MPA also aims to provide a platform for academics, practitioners, students, test users and people who are simply enthusiastic about psychometrics to come together and discuss their common interests. Our members come from many walks of life and many different countries, but are united by their belief in the importance of fair and meaningful testing conducted according to high standards.

The MPA could not be sustained without your involvement and support. We would like to welcome you with open arms into this growing association. We believe that, by working together, we can increase awareness and understanding of psychometrics among Malaysians.

This newly-launched website will be used to make announcements about networking opportunities, events such as workshops, and other matters of interest to the psychometrics community, and of course to disseminate information related to psychometrics itself. I would like to extend my gratitude to the members of the MPA executive committee for making the website a reality.

If you are a LinkedIn user, you may be interested in joining the Psychometrics Malaysia LinkedIn Group. This group aims to bring together practitioners with others who are interested in the field in order to encourage discussion and knowledge-sharing.

We would also very much like to hear from you! Feedback and comments are always welcome. We greatly value your ideas for improving the MPA and finding new ways to promote psychometrics in Malaysia. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you have thoughts, comments, or inquiries. If you are a member, I look forward to seeing you at future MPA events. Otherwise, I invite you to find out more about our association and consider joining the MPA!

Sincerely,

Dr. Haniza Yon

President, Malaysian Psychometrics Association
